Dissertation

The manufacturing industry is experiencing transformative shifts due to the integration of AI. While AI promises enhanced strategic execution, competitive advantage, and operational efficiency, it also brings human-centered challenges. This dissertation explores how executive leadership teams in manufacturing organizations can effectively implement AI while maintaining workplace well-being and ethical practices. Through a convergent parallel design, the research delves into employee experiences, leadership strategies, and organizational outcomes to bridge the gap between AI’s potential and its real-world challenges.

Study 1: Understanding Employee Perspectives

This quantitative survey focuses on employees in the U.S. manufacturing sector to explore their perceptions of AI adoption. It investigates how innovation characteristics, trust, and discomfort influence current and future AI use and examines how these factors impact workplace well-being. The study will employ advanced statistical methods to uncover the relationships between employee experiences and AI adoption.

Study 2: Leadership Insights on AI Integration

Through in-depth qualitative interviews with senior executives, this study will explore leadership perspectives on AI’s strategic role. It focuses on decision-making, ethical challenges, risk management, and how leaders address employee concerns about work-life balance and engagement. Thematic analysis highlights leadership strategies and narratives surrounding AI adoption.

Study 3: Measuring Impact on Organizations

This quantitative secondary analysis evaluates the impact of AI adoption on firm value and competitive advantage. Analyzing financial and operational data from U.S. manufacturing companies over a decade, the study will use advanced statistical analysis to assess changes in key metrics, comparing companies that have adopted AI with those that haven’t.

This paper examines the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in manufacturing organizations, emphasizing its impact on strategy execution and performance. While AI offers significant potential for improving efficiency and decision-making, its adoption faces challenges, including technological investment, ethical concerns, and workforce implications. The proposed AI-Enhanced Strategic Execution Framework (AISEF) highlights critical areas for leveraging AI, such as strategic alignment, leadership adaptation, ethical governance, and employee engagement. By addressing behavioral and strategic factors, AISEF aims to guide organizations in navigating AI complexities responsibly. The study provides a foundation for future research to explore AI's role in enhancing organizational performance.
